WHILE I AM WAITING; LESSONS FROM JOSEPH

WHILE I AM WAITING; LESSONS FROM JOSEPH

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven…

Ecclesiates 3 vs 1

God is a God of seasons, and in every season of waiting, there are lessons to be learned—lessons that ultimately deepen our trust in His supremacy and fatherhood.

Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring what it means to wait on God. We’ve established that we all experience ‘waiting’; the difference lies in what we are waiting for and how long the wait lasts.

As we continue this journey, we will study the lives of individuals in the Bible who endured seasons of waiting—some long, some painful—but in the end, they held God’s promises in their hands. Through their stories, we will uncover valuable lessons to help us navigate our own seasons of waiting with faith and perseverance.

This week, we turn to the story of Joseph. From Genesis 37 to 50, we see a young man walking in uncertainty, forced to trust God through betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment. From the age of 17 until he was 30, Joseph’s life was marked by waiting.

Let’s learn a few lessons from his story.

Lesson 1: Separation can be a Form of Preservation in the Waiting Season

One of the ways God preserves us during our waiting season is by separating us from environments that could stifle the seed of His promise in our lives. While waiting can feel like a period of delay, it is often a time of divine positioning, where God removes us from places, people, and situations that threaten our destiny.

For Joseph, this separation came in the form of betrayal. His own brothers, consumed by jealousy, mocked his dreams and despised him. As a 17-year-old, Joseph longed for acceptance—he wanted to fit in with his family. But had he remained in that toxic environment, he might have been pressured to downplay or even abandon the dreams God had placed in his heart.

God, in His wisdom, orchestrated Joseph’s journey to Egypt, not as a punishment but as preparation. The very place where he was sold into slavery became the land where his dreams would come to pass.

What seemed like a tragic separation was actually divine preservation.

Through years of waiting—first as a slave, then as a prisoner—Joseph was being pruned, prepared, and positioned for his assignment.

This teaches us a vital lesson: Sometimes, the discomfort of separation in our waiting season is God’s way of protecting and preparing us. We may not understand why certain relationships end, why doors close, or why we are pulled out of familiar spaces. But just as Joseph’s journey led to the fulfillment of his dreams, our own moments of separation are never wasted.

Are you in a waiting season where it feels like God is pulling you away from certain people, places, or opportunities? Instead of resisting, trust that this can be His way of positioning you for the things that He has planned out for you.

We don’t lose time by waiting on God because He is able to lead and redirect a man from his present point to exactly where He needs him to be.
