WITH ARMS WIDE OPEN

Jesus gave one of the most beautiful examples and comparison of our reactions as humans when we either lose or find things that we regard as valuable. He used three different parables with different circumstances just so we can understand the heart of our Father.

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, what will you do?”  Luke 15 4-6

We know that this question was directed to a certain set of people, but it is as important right now as it was back then. It challenges us to consider how far we are willing to go for someone or something we truly value, and in considering this, we can imagine how much more God can give up for each one of us.

In the parable of the lost sheep, the owner of a hundred sheep left ninety-nine in the pasture and went in search of the one that was alone. 

When we think about sheep, we often define a flock simply as a group of sheep moving together. However, it is much more than that. Sheep within a flock are deeply bonded to one another, forming close relationships and friendships that provide them with a strong sense of belonging. 

When a sheep becomes separated from the flock, it experiences stress and fear, making it an easier target for wild animals.

If a man can leave ninety-nine sheep to search for one that is lost, it not only proves how important that single sheep is to him, it also emphasizes the significance of returning the lost sheep to the fold, especially considering how vital the flock is to the sheep.

Just like the man who had ninety nine other sheep,In the parable of the prodigal son, the father had another son- one that was better behaved, yet he chose to wait for the son who left to return home.

“He was still a long way from home when his father saw him; his heart was filled with pity and he ran, threw his arms around his son and kissed him” Luke 15 vs 20

Although these parables talk about mortal men, Jesus used them to teach us about how valuable we are to God. 

It doesn’t matter if there are ninety-nine other people, He still wants you and I. 

And the best part is that He is waiting with His arms wide open.

It doesn’t matter how far you might have gone or how bad you think you are, He waits for you to come to Him.

You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool- Isaiah 1 vs 18

There is nothing too filthy for Him to clean or too damaged  for Him to fix.
